Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive to Lima
You will be met on your arrival at Lima Airport by your transfer driver who will transfer you in private to your Lima hotel, the comfortable Hotel Faraona Grand. Ideally situated in the district of Miraflores this hotel offers the ideal starting point for your tour. Once you have settled into the hotel your tour controller will arrive to give you a briefing on your tour. You will then be able to relax in the comfort of the hotel and rest from your international flight. No Meals Provided
Day 2: Flight to Arequipa
After breakfast you will be met by your driver and transferred to the airport for your short flight to the Southern city of Arequipa. Arriving into Arequipa airport your driver will be there to meet you and transfer you to the hotel, the welcoming Katari Hotel. Here you can relax and enjoy the garden and the rest of the day is free for you to relax. Tip: if you’re feeling adventurous, do try the Maté de Coca or coca-leaf tea as it is said to help you acclimatise to the altitude, it is not entirely unpleasant and tastes a little like green tea! The active ingredient from the coca leaf is also present in the popular Peruvian soft drink, Inka Cola. Meals: Breakfast
Day 3: Arequipa free day
Now is a good time to rest and take a breath for a further day in the beautiful ‘White City’. A little time to acclimatise to altitude is useful, before you head off to the high Altiplano. Highlights that you can visit in Arequipa, either independently or during an arranged tour (local payment), include the beautiful Monasterio de Santa Catalina and the nearby museum, which is home to the mummy of ‘Juanita ~ the Ice Maiden’. The night is spent once again in Posada Monasterio. Meals: Breakfast
Day 4: Colca Canyon small group tour with guide
After breakfast departure is at 7:30 from Arequipa, crossing 160 Km to the town of Chivay, capital of the Province of Caylloma. Leaving behind Arequipa you will enjoy the majestic views of Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes before entering the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”. Here you will make a stop to observe the wild Vicuñas in its natural habitat and also see Alpacas which are abundant in this area. At this point we will be around 3,400 meters above sea level. Continuing to “Pata Wasi”, (Pata=high Wasi=home) an Andean community in the opposite border of the reserve, here it is interesting to see the natural formation of the rocks and a view of the other side of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. To prevent altitude sickness we will enjoy an original Andean “Mate de Coca” drink in Sumbay, 3,800 meters above sea level. Continuing on the road we will pass through “Tocra” over the 4,500 meter high mountains, where we will observe the lakes with migrant birds and we’ll get pictures of the “Antiplano” (highland) with its llamas and Guanacos. Our highest point will be “Pata Pampa” located at 4,820 meters, where we’ll observe the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, the Hualca-Hualca, the Mismi) and the “Cordillera de Chila”. Arriving to the town of Chivay (3,651meters) we continue the short distance to the Hotel Mamayacchi. After finding our rooms, we will enjoy a traditional Peruvian lunch (not included). You are then free to relax and enjoy this quiet scenic setting or visit the thermal baths (take a swimsuit for this). Meals: Breakfast
Day 5: Chivay – Cruz Del Cóndor – Puno
Today you will take breakfast very early in the morning (around 6:00 a.m.), so we can leave to the famous “Cruz Del Condor” point, as early as possible. Before we approach the “Cruz Del Condor” we will make a stop at the look-out point of “Choquetico”, with its “Tumbas colgantes” (hanging tombs). Also we will visit the town of Maca, an Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November of 1991. Arriving to the “Cruz Del Condor” view point you will wait to see the spectacular sight of the Condors as they climb out of the Canyon on the morning thermals. After taking pictures of the majestic flight of the Condors, we will return to our transportation and will start the drive out of the Colca Canyon back to Chivay where you can have lunch and a rest before continuing to Peru. Rejoining your vehicle you will be crossing the Alta Plano to the town of Puno, set on the banks of the Great Lake Titicaca. On your late afternoon arrival to Puno you will check into the comfortable Qalasaya Hotel. Once you have settled into your rooms you will be met by your local guide for the duration of time in this area, they will give you a short briefing on your tour and be happy to answer any questions you may have. After the briefing you will have the rest of the evening free to explore the exiting centre of the city. Meals: Breakfast
Day 6: Lake Titicaca full day tour shared vessel
After breakfast today, you will be met once again by your guide who will transfer you to the harbour in Puno where you will board a shared vessel and head out on to the Great Lake Titicaca. The first port of call will be the incredible floating islands of the Uros; here you will see the way these people live on these most unusual islands. From here you continue onto the Island of Taquile where your guide will escort you around explaining all about the way of life for these people. Their lifestyle has remained the same for hundreds of years with very little influence from modern times, thus preserving many traditions, laws and customs. Skilled crafts are still very important to the inhabitants of Taquile, and the island is famous for its handmade textiles which are regarded amongst the highest-quality handicrafts available. For this reason, you will find that they are higher in price in comparison with other mass-produced handicrafts readily found in other parts of Peru. After exploring you will then have the opportunity to have lunch before re-joining your boat for the return journey back to Puno. You will have the rest of the evening free to relax in your comfortable lodgings. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 7: Transfer to Mallkini Ranch
Today is an early start as will be met by your driver and guide for the adventurous overland journey to the more remote but stunning Mallkini Ranch. This journey is mostly taken on unmade roads and depending on conditions can take between 4 to 5 hours passing through some of the least visited areas in all Peru. On arrival to the ranch you will be met with a warm welcome and a warm drink before being presented with your rooms where you can refresh from your travel, lunch will be followed by the start of our exclusive seminar which an introduction to the experts and of course to the beautiful alpaca’s. After an afternoon of study you can relax in the comfort of the hacienda and learn more of the amazing history of Mallkini and the Michel brothers who own the ranch. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8: Study course in alpaca breeding and management.
Working with Peruvian Secrets, your instructor has developed a program suited to our group’s level of knowledge and abilities. Through clear and professional instruction you will learn so much to take back with you and implement into your breeding programs. Working with the worlds experts will be a total pleasure and the alpacas you will see are the finest examples to be found in the world. The lodge is very comfortable and your needs are fully taken care of including all meals whilst on the study course. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 9: Second day of course
Today you will take the third part of the three day course but have time to relax and enjoy some of the other options available to you such as horse riding, mountain biking or just a gentle walk through the spectacular scenery. Ending your day with dinner and the award ceremony were you will receive the coveted certificate of achievement showing you have completed a course at the world’s greatest centre of alpaca excellence. Very few breeders will have the opportunity to take this experience however Peruvian Secrets has been working closely with Mallkini to develop this special course just for you. The evening is free to relax and enjoy your last night at the ranch. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 10: Depart for flight to Cuzco LAN 12:50 – 13:45
After breakfast we need say goodbye to our hosts and leave this beautiful place and head to Juliaca Airport, on arrival you will check into the direct flight to Cuzco. On arrival into Cuzco you will be met by your local guide and transferred to the Midori hotel ideally situated close to the main Plaza de Armas. Meals: Breakfast
Day 11: Free day Cusco
Today you are free to further explore the ancient city of Cusco. Declared a UNESCO world heritage in 1983 the city boasts an ancient network of catacombs to explore, a great many varied historical and cultural sites of interest and many of the buildings that stand there today are built on foundations laid by the Incas. You also have the choice of taking one of the many optional tours that operate in the area surrounding Cusco which is also rich in culture and heritage, your guide can assist you in any arrangements that you wish to make. Day 12: Sacred Valley Tour
Today you start your relaxed tour of the Sacred Valley, taken wholly in private, in the comfort of your guide’s own car. On the way you will visit Sacsayhuaman, one of the best existing examples of Inca stonework, with spectacular views of Cuzco below and far-away snowy peaks. From here we will travel to a variety of sites on the way into the valley, including Qenko, Puca Pucara and Tambo Machay, before arriving at the small, picturesque village of Pisac. This is the gateway to the Sacred Valley and home of the famous daily Pisac craft market; here you have an opportunity to view the many artisans’ wares on display including; textiles, jewellery and ceramics. Because your tour is in private, there will be ample opportunity to stop to take photographs along the way and to enjoy a leisurely lunch in a local eatery (lunch not included), as recommended by your guide. Arriving into Ollantaytambo, you will take in the spectacular ruins of the fortress with your guide. After your tour you will be transferred to the nearby train station in Ollantaytambo to meet your 16:36 departure to Aguas Calientes. The train will take you out of the Sacred Valley and into the mountains offering spectacular views of the countryside. On arrival into Aguas Calientes you will be met by a representative of your hotel who will assist you with your luggage and escort you to the very comfortable Casa Andina Standard Hotel for check in, once you have checked in you will have the rest of the day free to relax and explore the interesting town of Aguas Calientes Meals: Breakfast
Day 13: Machu Picchu & Return to Cusco
This is an ideal opportunity to take the first transport up to the ruined city of Machu Picchu giving you the chance to witness the spectacular sight of the citadel appearing like magic through the early morning cloud. In order to maximise your enjoyment from your visit, we provide the services of a professional local guide who will reveal some of the mysteries that surround this fascinating place. After your guided tour you will have ample time to explore the ruins yourself before you return to Aguas Calientes where you will transfer to the train station to take the return train journey to Cusco. Upon arrival at Poroy station, just outside of Cusco, you will be met by your driver who will transfer you back the Midori Hotel. The evening is free to take in a restaurant and enjoy the Inca Capital. Meals: Breakfast
Day 14: Flight to Lima
Today you will enjoy breakfast at your hotel before you are collected in the late morning and transferred to the airport to meet your flight back to Lima. On arrival into Lima you will be met by your private driver who will transfer you to the Hotel Faraona Grand for check in, you will then have the rest of the day free to relax and enjoy Lima “City of Kings” Meals: Breakfast
Day 15: International departure
Today you may have some free time ahead of your international departure, at the appropriate time your driver will collect you from your hotel and transfer you to the airport to meet your flight. Your driver will ensure you arrive with plenty of time to check in and will wave goodbye as you enter the terminal. Meals: Breakfast
